The Serra da Arrábida Nature Reserve is a magnificent landmark and a treasure that is held in custody for the people and visitors to Portugal. Located on the northern shore of the Sado Estuary and lying between the villages and towns of Sesimbra, Palmela, Azeitão and Sétubal , the Serra da Arrábida Nature Reserve covers 108 square kilometres and is abundant with natural vegetation not unlike that found along the Mediterranean.
The highest point in the Reserve is at an elevation of around 500 metres and overlooks onto the popular beaches of Figueirinha and Portinho da Arrábida which have been favourite places amongst the local inhabitants for many years. The Serra da Arrábida provides magnificent views both to the Atlantic Ocean and to the City of sétubal and is equally admirable when viewed back from the Troia peninsula at a short boat ride away across the Sado Estuary and River.
