Activities on the Troia Peninsula: Beach Walking Bird Watching Troia is a wild life haven for many species of birds and according to the majority of literature that is available there are some 100 different species that frequent this paradise. However our local bird watcher (and dolphin observer ) Pedro Narra (www.pedronarra.com) suggests that there are closer to 200 different species that frequent the peninsula and given that he has been observing the wildlife life here for the last twelve years our vote would go to him. Casino and Entertainment The casino which is due to be opened on the 31st of December 2010 is managed and operated by Group Amorim and forms part of their luxurious Blue and Green Troia Design five star hotel. The casino with her nightly entertainment will bring an influx of international travelers to the peninsula and in turn will add another bright spark to this fantastic and colourful destination. Cycling Throughout the year you will see numerous cyclists frequent the unique road that runs the length of Troia peninsula and whether they are individuals or groups, amateurs or professionals they all get to enjoy the magnificent views that Troia boasts to both the Sado Estuary and the Atlantic Ocean. There are also a number of cycling events held throughout the year, which at times closes one side of the road in order that a safe and successful race can take place. Dolphin Observation One of troia’s true spectacles is to view at less than a metre away our resident Bottlenose pod of dolphins. These incredibly friendly mammals have been under the careful eye of Vertigemazul (www.vertigemazul.com) for the last twelve years and have provided thousands of tourists and residents with memories that will never be forgotten. The dolphins can be viewed from shore on many days throughout the year however there is nothing more exciting than to see them face to face. Vertigemazul offer daily excursions throughout the summer months and at varying times throughout the rest of the year Fishing It is common knowledge throughout the peninsula and her surrounding areas that long before the Romans inhabited this part of the world, that the local population had fished both the estuary and Atlantic Ocean which up until the present day has provided an array of both fresh and salt water seafood and fish. Whether you are a keen angler or make your living from the surrounding waters the skill, patience and determination is still today what it has always been required. Not a day goes by without seeing either a fishing vessel with her captain and crew or a lone individual casting their nets akin to the times of Jesus Christ. These hardened and courageous men, risk their lives on a daily basis and for centuries back have been the great providers of the delights that the ocean and estuary have served. As you stroll along the beaches on either side of the peninsula you will also see a number of people fishing from the shore, with many a lunch and dinner being caught this way. In fact do not be surprised that the fish you intend to eat this evening was not caught in this way.
