Montemor-o-Novo is a municipality in the District of Evora in Alentejo, Portugal. The population is approximately twenty thousand inhabitants with ten thousand of those living within the city. The area covers 1,232 square kilometres which is mainly agricultural land and open meadows which is used for grazing livestock.
Montemor has an ancient past including religious orders and rural nobility, which is found within its Manor Houses, Convents and Churches. Montemor is 132 kilometres from the border city of Badajoz in Spain and 106 kilometres from the capital Lisbon with both destinations being served by motorway.
There are seven civil parishes;
Cabrela, Ciborro, Corticadas de Lavre e Lavre, Foros de Vale de Figueira, Nossa Senhora da Vila e Nossa Senhora do Bispo e Silveiras, Santiago do Escoural, Sao Cristovao.
