This estate is located on the edge the Serra de São Mamede National Park at an altitude of between 500 – 600 metres above sea level. The property has stunning views of the Pico de São Mamede, the highest point in southern Portugal which rises to over 1,000 metres. The property extends to over 21 ha and spans a shallow river valley. Located on the so called meia encosta, (‘half-way up the slope’), where tradition relates that the best wines are generally produced, there is never any shortage of water with a dam and a number of wells and springs on the estate.

The vineyard extends to 12.5ha and has been extensively replanted and upgraded over the last 20 years. Alongside old interplanted vines, (some up to 70 years old) are newer vineyards planted with traditional local varieties (Trindcadeira, Aragonez and Alicante Bouschet) as well as Syrah, Viognier, Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon. Most of the property is fed by drip irrigation. Now in full production, the vineyard is capable of producing up to 60,000 bottles of wine a year. There are also a number of cork oaks and olive trees on the estate.

There is a recently built architect-designed adega (winery) with a tasting room and terrace on the upper floor which makes the most of the views over the unspoilt countryside, protected by the national park. An underground cellar hewn from the granite is ideal for ageing wines in barrel and in bottle.

There are four houses as well as a number of agricultural buldings, all of which have the potential to be redeveloped for tourism. Being just outside the national park is an advantage as strict planning laws do not apply.

The estate lies in the Portalegre sub-region of the Alentejo which is a DOC in its own right. This estate is one of the larger properties in the area. Annual average rainfall, which is below 400mm in much of the Alentejo, is in excess of 600mm in Portalegre and the Serra de São Mamede.

The vineyard is a working estate, in full production, capable of producing outstanding wines.

The main areas of the estate are as follows;

1.6 ha Aragonez, planted in 2006. Drip irrigation
1.65 ha Alicante Bouschet. Planted 2004. Drip Irrigation.
Dam / barragem. Constructed 2002 and lined in 2005. 25,400 m3 capacity.
0.32 ha Cabernet Sauvignon. Planted 2004
2.5 ha Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir and others. Old vines. Dry farmed.
0.4 ha Aragonez, planted late 1980s. Drip irrigation
2.66 ha Syrah / Viognier and Touriga Nacional. Planted 2006. Drip irrigation.

The property also includes 2 wells and 2 springs as well as a dam for water storage.

The Serra de São Mamede in the Alto Alentejo is recognised as having one of the finest terroirs in Portugal for both red and white wines. Soils of granite and schist combine with altitude to produce wines with inherent freshness and finesse that regularly win awards in international competitions. The area is currently the subject of considerable international interest and investment.


Adega (winery)
Built in 2007, the adega currently extends to 600m2 with the possibility of a further 250m2 extension in a separate building.

The current adega has been designed the capacity to vinifiy 100,000 kgs of grapes and has a potential storage capacity of 67,000 litres in vat, A spectacular underground cellar has a capacity of an aditional 18,000 litres storage in barrel in naturally temperature controlled conditions.

With the entire project complete, the vinification capacity would be 160,000 kilos and storage in vat of 145,000 litres.
